Subclinical vitamin B12 deficiency

Vitamin B12 in the low-normal range together with raised homocysteine and normal folate, a sign that the body's cells are already short of B12 even though the level itself does not look low. It is common in people over 60, vegetarians and vegans, and people taking metformin or stomach-acid blockers. Blood testing picks it up before it causes anemia or nerve damage.
