What we can find

Can the Prevention Starter blood test point to thyroid problems?

Yes, the Prevention Starter blood test can provide indications of a thyroid function disorder.

It includes TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), the most sensitive screening test for thyroid function. If your TSH is below the reference range, we automatically run free T4 (fT4) and free T3 (fT3) on the same blood sample, without a further blood draw. This allows an overactive thyroid or early, subclinical imbalances to be assessed more precisely.

We do not currently test anti-TPO or anti-thyroglobulin antibodies. These are needed to diagnose autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease. If your thyroid values are abnormal, your GP can order antibody tests as a follow-up. For preventive purposes you are also welcome to request these values from us.
