How do I prepare for the Prevention Starter blood test?
You will receive detailed preparation instructions once your booking is confirmed, including the calendar invitation for your appointment. For your blood draw:
- Fasting: Please fast for 8–12 hours before the blood draw. Water is allowed.
- Fluids: Drink 2–3 glasses (about 500 ml) of water before the appointment. This makes the blood draw easier.
- Exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise for about 24 hours before the blood draw.
- Caffeine: On the day of the blood draw, avoid coffee and tea until after the appointment.
- Medication: Keep taking your regular medication unless your doctor has advised otherwise. Please take thyroid medication (for example levothyroxine) only after the blood draw.
- Supplements: Take them as usual and state them in the questionnaire. Exception: if you take biotin (vitamin B7), for example in supplements for hair, skin and nails, please stop it at least 2 days before the blood draw, as it can distort some hormone measurements. A standard multivitamin is not a problem. If your doctor has prescribed high-dose biotin, please do not stop it without speaking to them first, and state it in the medical questionnaire. Creatine can affect kidney function markers.
