What we can find
At what age should you start screening for dementia risk?
No clinical guideline recommends routine brain imaging for people without symptoms. The most effective thing you can do is to tackle the modifiable risk factors from midlife onwards: blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, hearing, physical activity and smoking. If you would still like a structural baseline, you can have one taken from around age 45. If you notice memory problems, or if early-onset dementia runs in your family, your GP or a neurologist is the right place to start.
