Can a prostate MRI detect prostate cancer, and how accurate is it?

Yes. Our prostate MRI is designed to find the cancers that matter, the kind more likely to grow and need treatment, including ones a PSA test can miss. In a UK screening study, more than half of the men found to have significant prostate cancer had a PSA below the usual cut-off.

Quite often, though, a suspicious spot turns out, after more tests, to be nothing that needs treatment. And no scan finds every cancer, which is why we recommend adding a PSA test for the most complete check.
