Appendicitis

Inflammation of the appendix, usually causing acute pain in the lower right abdomen that, left untreated, can rupture and inflame the abdominal lining (peritonitis). MRI can show an inflamed, thickened appendix, but acute appendicitis is a medical emergency rather than something a screening exam is meant to catch.
