Inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis)

Inflammation of the gallbladder, usually triggered by a gallstone blocking the cystic duct and backing up the flow of bile; left untreated, it can lead to serious complications. Blood testing can give signs of inflammation, while MRI directly images the gallbladder and its wall and can show both the acute and chronic forms.
