Infection of the mastoid ear bone (mastoiditis)

Inflammation of the mastoid, the bone behind the ear, which can arise as a rare complication of an inadequately treated middle ear infection and needs prompt antibiotic treatment. MRI shows how far the inflammation extends and whether it has spread to surrounding structures, helping to guide treatment.
