Peritoneal carcinomatosis

Spread of cancer to the peritoneum lining the abdominal cavity, usually from gastrointestinal or ovarian tumors. MRI reveals nodular deposits and associated fluid, enabling staging. MRI can raise suspicion of this finding, but a definitive diagnosis requires further specialist assessment — typically examining a tissue sample (taken by biopsy or during surgical removal), and sometimes additional imaging or blood tests.
