Diabetes mellitus

A metabolic disorder in which the body can no longer properly regulate blood sugar; it can develop over years without symptoms and, left untreated, may damage blood vessels, kidneys, nerves, and eyes. Blood testing with HbA1c and fasting glucose detects diabetes and its early stages so that timely intervention is possible.
